Call for junior scholar papers

The international symposium media/environment 2026 includes a panel for junior scholars based in the Netherlands. PhD candidates and research master’s students who are members of a Dutch national research school such as Netherlands Research School for Media Studies (RMeS) can present their research in short pitches (7-10 minutes) and earn up to 3 ECs. The panel is sponsored by RMeS.

You can earn credits by attending the entire symposium and:

  • submitting a conference report published in a publicly visible medium (blog post, zine, podcast etc.) = 1 EC
  • pitching a research project in the Junior Scholars panel and submitting a conference report = 2 EC
  • pitching a research project in the Junior Scholars panel and submitting a research paper (4000 words, deadline TBD) = 3 EC

Are you interested in presenting your on-going project or past work related to media’s planetary entanglements from the archive to the algorithm, from screen to stream? Submit your 300-word abstract before 25 May 2026, 23:59.

Up to six junior scholars will be selected to present – a unique chance to expand your international network and present your work alongside leading international scholars in the field of eco-media studies.

Eligibility:

  • RMeS student members (research master’s students and PhD candidates)
  • Research master’s students who are members of another Dutch national research school (such as NICA and others)
