Call for junior scholar papers

The international symposium media/environment 2026 includes a panel for junior scholars based in the Netherlands. PhD candidates and (research) master’s students who are members of the Netherlands Research School for Media Studies (RMeS) can present their research in short pitches (7-10 minutes) and earn up to 3 ECs. The panel is sponsored by RMeS.

You can earn credits by attending the entire symposium and:

  • submitting a conference report published in a publicly visible medium (blog post, zine, podcast etc.) = 1 EC
  • pitching a research project in the Junior Scholars panel and submitting a conference report = 2 EC
  • pitching a research project in the Junior Scholars panel and submitting a research paper (4000 words, deadline TBD) = 3 EC

Are you an RMeS student or PhD member interested in presenting your on-going project or past work related to media’s planetary entanglements from the archive to the algorithm, from screen to stream? Submit your 300-word abstract before 25 May 2026, 23:59.

Up to six junior scholars will be selected to present – a unique chance to expand your international network and present your work alongside leading international scholars in the field of eco-media studies.
